New hobby!

Wow, I'm not really doing too well with the whole blogging thing am I?

Well I'm here now. Why? Because I feel a need to write.

My hubby is away in Afghanistan for the next 6 months, so nights are lonely. I haven't been scrapbooking much lately, just not feeling it I guess. But I'm still being crafty! And I've found myself a new little hobby :P

It can be a bit of a pricey hobby. And it's kind of stalled thanks to Canada Post going on strike then being locked out. What is my new hobby? Swapbot. A site just for organizing and getting together with people to swap stuff. All kinds of stuff. Crafty stuff, postcards stuff, sticker stuffs, if you can think it you can swap it.

I love getting mail. But it seems to be so rare that we ever get anything besides bills and flyers. So now with this new hobby I can get lots of mail! Just as soon as Canada Post goes back to delivering said mail.

Until then here's a list of things that Canada Post still needs to deliver to me:

1- invitation to my sister's wedding!
2- package from my sweet hubby in Afghanistan!
3- a crafty book I swapped a handmade turtle Amigurumi for.
4- a paper crafts misc supplies swap
5- a tote and a note swap
6- a birthday gift swap
7- 3 tourism swaps
8- 3 children's sticker swaps
9- a postcard swap
10- a summer recipe and tea swap
11- 2 more birthday gift swaps
12- 2 birthday card swaps
13- a private swap (ribbon key fob wristlet/coffee mug cozy)
14- a postcard purchase from Zazzle.com
15- a purchase from VistaPrint.ca
16- 3 purchases from Etsy.com (including 2 birthday presents for myself!)
17- 10+ birthday cards from my birthday contest :D

That equals to...34+ pieces of mail waiting for me in the postal system!! Wow.

And I have a few waiting to be mailed too. Including:

1- 3 tourism swaps
2- a summer recipe and tea swap
3- 2 birthday card swaps
4- 2 birthday gift swaps
5- a private swap (ribbon key fob wristlet/coffee mug cozy)

The above swaps are all packaged and ready to go. Just waiting for the post offices to open again.

Photo Share wk 1

Ok, so I'm a day late with shutterboo's assignment - but better late than never right? Week one's theme was... electricity. Here's my photo:

Why the big red symbol? Because right now it's Winter. And for me that means static electicity. And that means - don't touch the light switches or I'll get zapped!

The KCB CT is also trying to do a weekly photo share within our little fan club (hehehe, aka CT Forum) and this week's topic is: living rooms. And we just replaced some furniture in our living room this week so here are a couple before and after shots!

Before (there were also photos on the top of the entertainment unit, but I'd already taken some things off by the time I thought of taking a before photo.

So bye bye giant entertainment unit (that didn't quite make it in one piece on our last move - some of the doors on the bottom wouldn't go back on) and hello smaller tv stand and bookcase. The only problem - not enough room for all our dragons and faeries that we collect. So they'll have to get scattered around the house more. Oh well. I still like the smaller furniture, having more of the wall space visible makes the room feel a little bit bigger.

Here you can see all of Ally's toy storage lined up against the wall. Some of those end tables ended up getting moved between the couch and loveseat, and the brown ottoman is currently being moved around everywhere while we try to find the perfect spot for it.

And behind the couch you can see Jean's little computer nook and the built-in bar - I think he's got it made - wouldn't you agree? lol. Don't mind all the cardboard boxes, that's the aftermath from all the new furniture (tv stand, 2 bookcases, a DVD holder stand that went in my craft room, and an entrance unit with hooks, a bench, mirror and storage under the bench... what can I say? The Brick was having a sale... lol).

That's it for my photo sharing this week. Week 2's photo assignment for shutterboo is Joy, so hopefully I'll be back before next Wednesday with that photo. TTYL!

Handmade Christmas gifts

Just wanted to share what I made for my sisters this past Christmas- crocheted slippers and ribbon wristlet key fobs.

The slipper pattern was fairly easy, though I had to redo the first pair a couple times until I got the hang of it...lol. And the key fobs were super easy, and fast to make. I bought the webbing and hardware on Etsy for super cheap and the ribbon at Walmart. In about 30 minutes I had half a dozen of these little babies done. Last minute I added the little key charms which I found at my local scrapbooking store.

Hello World!

Just testing a post right now. Will hopefully be back later with a real post :D
